Welcome
to the Torrance Council of PTAs!
As
a parent, you are the most important influence in your
child’s success. Research has proven that children do
better when their parents are involved both at home and
at school. This translates to higher grades, test scores
and greater self-esteem. As the best resource for parents,
PTA offers useful information to many thousands of
parents just like you. PTA provides the resources and
support you need to stay involved in the life of your child
every day.
Torrance
Council of PTAs is a nonprofit volunteer
organization of parents, educators, students, health and
welfare professionals, and community members who work
together to promote the education and well-being of all
children and youth at home, in school and in the
community. It serves the PTAs and PTSAs in the
Torrance Unified School District. We are located in
the South Bay Area of Los Angeles County. Torrance
Council of PTAs consists of 30 units: 17 elementary
schools, 8 middle schools, 4 high schools and 1
preschool.
Torrance
Council of PTAs is committed to help strengthen
parent and community involvement in our schools and in
education decision making. We provide parent information
and training to help parents strengthen their parenting skills.
We promote programs and projects that affect the safety
and well-being of children and their families including
disaster preparedness, child safety education and
environmental awareness. We offer articles for reprint
in unit PTA newsletters concerning health issues
affecting our children and sponsor the nationwide
“Red Ribbon Week” anti-drug campaign.
Torrance Council of PTAs “Communicator” offers organization
information, school and district news, and education and
student related articles to school parents, staff and the
community. We help to develop leadership management skills
in our unit’s leadership while helping them to become familiar
with the principles, guidelines and structure of PTA. We are actively
keeping our membership informed of current legislation that may affect
their children’s education, health and/or safety. We send one
student from each high school to Sacramento each March to meet with
our elected representatives and encourage our unit’s to send representatives.
Torrance Council of PTAs awards graduating high school seniors scholarships
and recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to
the education and well-being of children through the Honorary Service
Award Program.
I invite you to contact us if you have any questions about Torrance
Council of PTAs and to join us in seeking to improve the lives of all
children.
