Steps for a successful event:

1. Work with your president and principal, schedule your HSA program for the month of February, if possible.  If you hold your HSA program after February you will run into problems with other deadlines. 

2. Meet with your President about your budget for HSA. 

3. Form an HSA committee. The committee needs to be appointed by the president and ratified at an executive board meeting.  Please review your bylaws and standing rules regarding this committee. 

4. Send out nomination forms via email, website and/or hard copies sent home.  Here is an example from CAPTA, which can also be found on their website. Google forms are also good. 

5. Please make sure that all nominations are kept private and discussions are kept confidential within your committee. 

6. Read the attached information from the CAPTA Toolkit regarding the different types of awards. The Outstanding Administrator Award should only be given to an administrator (for example, a principal or TUSD director). It should not be given to non-administrative school employees (teachers, secretaries, health clerks, custodians, etc.) 

7. Meet with your committee to:

   1. Review Honorary Service Awards

   2. Find nominees, review and select recipients

   3. Plan your event and prepare an Event Plan to present to your Executive Board for approval.

   4. Distribute jobs (e.g. write bios; order pins and certificates from CAPTA; plan the presentation, make invitations, decorations, hospitality, etc.)

8. Order your pins and certificates.  It can take 2 weeks for delivery. 

9. Submit your bios and RSVPs to Torrance Council of PTAs by the deadlines (listed below).  Be mindful of deadlines and start early.
