About Us

Torrance Council of PTAs (TCPTA) was established in 1947 to support and coordinate the efforts of its unit PTAs, starting with just a few units.  Today, TCPTA has grown to 30 unit PTAs including 4 high schools, 8 middle schools, 17 elementary schools, and one preschool within Torrance Unified School District.

The purpose of the council is collaboration, leadership training and coordination of the efforts of our member units. TCPTA works to promote the common interests of the units and to coordinate the work with other agencies or organizations in the area working for children and youth.  TCPTA also serves as a link of communication for the units to our District PTA, California State PTA, and National PTA.

We invite all parents, students, teachers, staff, and members of the community to join!

See the ‘Join PTA’ tab for more information.

Per California State PTA:

A council is a group of PTA units organized under the authority of California State PTA for the purpose of collaboration, leadership training, and coordination of the efforts of the member units. A council provides the units within a city, county, or area an opportunity for cooperation in promoting their common interests and discussion regarding their common issues. It coordinates the work of the member units with other agencies or organizations in the area working for children and youth. It serves as a channel of communication between the state and district PTA and the units.
